Weekly Status Update: May 30th, 2026
Warming up the engines to collect maps at scale, an accidental $600 service provider bill (fixed), and prep for WWDC // CommunityKit Indie Dev Fair.
This week was warming up the engines to get all the maps collected. In that flow, I accidentally created a not-small service provider bill. Whoops. I’m chasing quality on all the things and really excited for TestFlight. On top of all the fun at work, my wife and daughter were in Georgia for a week, so my son and I got to spend a lot of quality time together.
Let’s get to updates.
Maps
We’re locked in on the ML model, v1 is ready. Seeing that model collect course imagery at scale has been great. I know there will be issues, but I’m very excited about the results thus far.
As part of this collection, I rang up a $600 bill because I did not optimize for the free tier on my service provider. I’ve since fixed that. Additionally, I spent time this week streamlining the collection processing. With a course like Sunset (Longmont) it’s 16 tiles (now 13 with my changes), but that could be comprised of 13 or about 590 tiles depending on my tile source. I went from being able to process dozens of courses an hour to almost two hundred. Luckily, the slowness at the start is probably the only thing that saved me from going even further into provider billing debt.
CommunityKit Indie Dev Fair
I’m presenting at WWDC // CommunityKit Indie Dev Fair. I’m putting together a demo showcasing v1, but also a bit of v2 (iPad support for on-course experiences). If you’re around: I’d love to show you a bit, give out a sticker or pin/ball marker.
