Howdy, again.

A longer howdy. Where I've been, what I'm building today, and what's next.

Howdy, my name is John Marc. I’m based in Colorado.

My life includes a dog, two cats, two kids and my lovely wife Laura. Typically during the week you will find me bouncing between coffee shops, pizzerias and a brewery or two. Beyond having a great life full of activity, I work on Apple platforms.

History

I started my first stint with Apple in 2011, working in retail. I worked in Palo Alto’s first location (R002) which some folks call “Steve’s store.” I worked in that location till it closed and reopened in its new/current location still on University Ave in Palo Alto. I started as a Specialist, then Workshop Specialist (~6 hours of presenting daily), Technical Specialist and Genius.

I met some of the smartest and passionate folks in my life today through that store. Some folks that I connected with in that location and time of life have become lifelong friends and were in my wedding. More impressive is that many of these individuals have moved outside retail, into wonderful careers within Apple or outside it. I’m always so happy to see these folks building careers and lives, knowing them from those early days.

After retail, I did a brief stint at Walmart.com as an IT tech. It was not for me, and was very brief. I actually did my last interview for my next role at Apple the last week I was with Apple before departing the first time.

Early 2014, I joined Apple’s App Review. I joined as a reviewer and enjoyed that. Quickly after joining, I met folks that would mentor me and teach me the role of a Technical Investigator. As a technical investigator, I worked for years with privacy, partnership management, policy, internal documentation teams, external developers, and evangelism. Some of my work turned into new APIs or policies, or helped developers on the App Store.

2019, following the birth of my second kiddo, we moved to Colorado, which meant I was leaving Apple (again). I knew of an acquisition of a company in Colorado, and that Apple retained that team in Colorado; meaning I knew they had a presence. That same year (knowing the above), I joined a computer vision company, Occipital, working with developers and engineering on their SDK. I got my second bite into computer vision work, extending my knowledge in the space and expanding my experience working with developers, customers and teams.

2021, I decided it was time to head back to Apple. I worked on the QA side as an entry to what would become Vision Products Group (VPG). After a quick time on that team, I moved to software engineering, bringing up iPhone and iPad apps on the Vision Pro. I worked on everything from API coverage, new APIs, changes to existing APIs and quality. My task: “It just works (iPhone and iPad apps).”

Fall of 2024, I started playing around with what was possible with Widgets on visionOS. It started as a curiosity, morphed into a demo and eventually would become part of a team that brought widgets to life on the platform. I wasn’t the only engineer that shipped widgets. There were tons of wicked smart folks that made that reality.

Today

2025, I left Apple for the 3rd time. I always wanted to be an indie developer, and in spring 2025 I started working on Dewy Golf. October 2025, I left and made it my full-time gig. I’ve been working (read more about this later) on computer vision problems, ML, design, user experience, and accessibility. I’ve been having a blast and cannot wait to launch.

Future

I am continuing to work on Dewy Golf, but have some cycles to start consulting/freelancing with folks. I’d love to hear about your project and what you might be needing.

Beyond contracting, I am looking into some hardware projects, mostly robotics and human medical sensing. Additionally, I will be expanding Dewy Golf into some golf-related experiences focused on helping golfers. Lastly, I probably have some house projects that have been a bit neglected.
